MarkedHabit

Privacy

MarkedHabit is a small app for a small group of people who know each other. It keeps what you log so it can score your week and show it to the people you chose. It does not sell data, show ads, or run analytics. Last updated September 8, 2026.

What it keeps

Your email address, which is how you sign in, and the name and timezone you set. What you log: habit taps, meals with their nutrition numbers and any photos you attach, weights and body measurements, nights of sleep, workouts synced from your phone or Strava, and journal posts. The terms of your challenges, the money you put on them, and the record of any donation that resulted. The groups you belong to and what you post in their threads.

Nothing is inferred about you beyond the arithmetic the app shows: a rate for the week, a trend for the scale, calories per gram of protein.

Where it lives

In a database hosted by Supabase, under an account controlled by the person who runs MarkedHabit. The site runs on Vercel. Sign-in emails are sent through Resend. Each of those companies processes what passes through it under its own terms; none of them is given your data for any purpose other than running the app.

Photos are stored in a private bucket and shown through short-lived links. Session cookies keep you signed in; there are no tracking cookies.

Who sees it

You. The members of a group you join see your weekly rate, the line you hold, and what is at stake; that is the point of the group. Your weight is shared only if you turn sharing on. Journal posts reach a group only where you switched your journal on for it, and a post you mark private stays yours. The person who runs the app can reach the database directly, as with any small app, and does not read your entries.

A connected chat

If you connect a Claude chat, you authorize it to read your targets and write your meals, weights, workouts, sleep and journal on your behalf. What you say to Claude is handled under Anthropic's own privacy policy. Remove the connector in Claude's settings to take the access back; its token expires on its own after that.

Apple Health and Strava

Workouts (type, duration, distance, energy), body mass and sleep can be relayed from Apple Health, Health Connect or Strava. Today that happens through a connected chat on your phone, with your permission each time. A MarkedHabit app for iPhone that reads the same three kinds of data from Apple Health directly and sends them to your own account is planned; it will read nothing else. Health data is never sold, shared with a group, or used for advertising. To stop the reading on iPhone, open Settings, then Privacy & Security, then Health, and turn MarkedHabit off.

Money

When a stake is lost, the donation is made by you on Every.org. MarkedHabit receives a confirmation from Every.org that it happened and records it against the week. It never holds a card number.

What is used

The app keeps a log of which tools a connected chat calls and which pages are opened, the name and the time only, for ninety days, to see what is used. Never what was said or what was on the page.

Taking it back

Everything is kept while your account exists. Write to ryan@markedhabit.com to have your account and everything in it deleted, or to get a copy of your data. Either happens within a few days.
